Mummies, Muscles and Maths - A Look Back at Our Half Term

Date: 22nd May 2025 @ 10:33pm

What a fantastic half term we’ve had in Year 3!

This term, we stepped back in time and travelled to Ancient Egypt! We explored what life was like thousands of years ago, learning about how the ancient Egyptians lived, their jobs, homes, and the fascinating world of Egyptian gods. We placed Ancient Egypt on a timeline and discovered the importance of rituals and beliefs, especially their thoughts about the afterlife.

One of the highlights of our topic was our exciting trip to Bolton Museum, where we had the incredible opportunity to see real mummies that have been preserved for over 3000 years! We explored ancient artefacts, took part in engaging activities, and deepened our understanding of this amazing civilisation.

In art, we were inspired by traditional Egyptian artwork and created our own canopic jars. We explored the symbolic meanings behind the jars and carefully designed and sculpted our own versions using clay—our creativity really shone through!

In science, we have been learning all about the skeletal system and muscles. We now know how our bones and muscles work together to help us move—and why without them, we’d be just a pile of gloop!

In maths, we’ve been working incredibly hard and have made a brilliant start learning how to tell the time on analogue clocks. The children have shown fantastic resilience and enthusiasm.

It’s been a half term packed with curiosity, creativity and confidence, and we’re so proud of everything the children have achieved. We’re excited to see what the next half term brings!

Wishing you all a restful and enjoyable break.
